The carnival of all time will feature floats from villages, age grades and other groups from Onitsha and around the world. Unlike other carnivals, the GOLIBE FESTIVAL carnival will focus on the culture, tradition and music of Onitsha and all other participating towns. The theme for this maiden edition is “Golibe”. Each participating group is expected to be creative and express themselves or the way they “rejoice” through their costumes, floats, dance, etc. to compete for the Star prize. The Carnival parade will commence at the Chuba Ikpeazu stadium through the official route and end at the stadium where all the guests, participants, sponsors and spectators will converge for the announcement of the winners and a post event celebration. Masquerades are not allowed for this event.
The three Bands to compete in the Carnival are:
1. Ebo-Itenani – for the villages in Onitsha. Each village will form a group.
2. “Nwanne di na Mba “ – for non-Onitsha towns and rest of the world. Each group will register their group name here and appoint a group lead.
3. Ofala – reserved for Onitsha Ofala Carnival band.
